Pendulums, Track Meet and CMAS testing:

Swinging time!

Swinging time!

We started the week with a new Science unit – Variables! In this unit, students will learn the ins and outs of creating a good scientific experiment. We start the unit by making pendulums and collecting data on how they swing. This is a great way to end the year in science… lots of hands on work and group work!

Our Track Meet in This FRIDAY! Parents are welcomed to come – stay for the day or come hang out for a bit. Make sure to check the weather and send your child prepared. We will be out all day and there is no shelter. Send appropriate clothing, sunscreen, etc. Your child will also need a disposable sack lunch and (possible) snack money. Prairie View High School has a snack bar and it will be open for the event. Please see Mr. Keefe’s note sent home a couple weeks ago (the one you had to sign to give your 5th grader permission to attend). All students must ride the bus. Parents can meet us there. This is usually a great memory making day!

We completed CMAS training this week (a few keep will be finishing their test tomorrow due to absences). We had a very “boring” test prep time. I embarrassed myself by creating a movie for the kids. I also provided all the snacks this time. We had donut holes on Thursday and my daughter baked special fortune cookies for the kids on Friday. We also had a dance-off, yoga and some other “boring” test prep. Our students did a great job all throughout the test. They showed grit and perseverance. They made me very proud!

These last weeks are PACKED with information. There is a lot going on!!!!! Please read everything the office sends. Please read my notes and don’t hesitate to ask questions. We will all finish off the year in style!!!

Thank you for sharing your children with me!

P.S. – Please send your child’s baby photos this week! Thank you!

The Beginning of the End…

Solar Oven Challenge Champs!

Solar Oven Challenge Champs!

I know, the title of this post is a little sad, but it is true. When we return form Spring Break, time flies by, and soon the end is here. There will be a lot of information coming at you, so please follow the news carefully, and don’t reset to ask questions when you are confused.

* Are you checking Infinite Campus often? This is the best way to keep up with your child’s progress. Remember what we established in the beginning of the year: Late assignments lose one letter grade. After a week, late assignments are a zero. Help your child stay current on everything. Check IC and your child’s planner daily if you can.

* Did you get both papers sent home Friday? One was for a t-shirt we will be getting to wear for all upcoming events 5th graders have an important role in (Track Meet, Field Day, The Walk, etc). Please send the information and money back to us as soon as you can, but NO LATER than Wednesday (April 15th). Time is short and we are in need of a quick turn around. All students will draw a stick version of themselves for decorate the t-shirts. This has been a 5th grade tradition! The second paper is a permission slip for Track Meet (May 1st). Your child is not allowed to come without the permission slip!

*Last request: My daughter and I put together a DVD with all special moments for your 5th grader. This is a gift for the end of the school year. I always include a baby picture of your 5th grader in it. We¬†have a large class this year, so we will be asking for NO MORE THAN 1 baby picture from each student. Please send this to me by email if possible. If your favorite picture is not in digital form, please send it to me anyway. I will scan and send back to you. The DVDs are best when everyone send a picture, so let’s start looking for those treasures!!!!

It is hard to think of the end, but what a year this has been! So much growth and so many memories. We can all enjoy the fact that our kids will all be superstars in 6th grade, wherever they go!

Thank you for sharing your children with me!
