Spring Break’s Eve…

March Madness!

March Madness!

As we prepare for conferences, students are doing a lot of thinking and reflection about their learning. We are excited to meet with you and share all of the fun and learning so far! If you have not signed up for conferences yet, please do so.

We have been doing our own March Madness – reading style. It has been fun to battle for our favorite books. We hear friends speaking about books dear to their heart and get to collect new titles we were not aware of yet! Check out some of the pictures of our bracket…!

When we return from Spring Break our work continues. In Science, we will have some fun learning about energy (our last standard to be covered). We will also learn about Variables and experiment with pendulums and airplanes! And we will, of course, finish our CMAS and PARCC testing for 2015.

My husband and I will be taking off for  Brazil the day after conferences. We will be visiting my parents and enjoying the sunny beaches. I look forward to my time “back home”. I hope you all have some fun and rest planned for Spring Break!

Thank you for sharing your children with me!

Welcome March!

Research wall for grolar bear mystery

Research wall for grolar bear mystery

Have you heard about the mystery of the grolar bear? We have been researching this in science and the findings are amazing! By researching the grolar bear, our students have been reintroduced to animal adaptations. We will continue to explore this theme this week, and delve a little deeper into how animals adapt for survival.

The month of March will come and go in  hurry. There is a lot happening this month, so please read on:

This coming week: NO READING RESPONSE DUE!!! Students have been working on writing a memoir and will be very busy putting the finishing touches to their pieces. In order to not overwhelm students, I have decided to call off reading responses this week. Please make sure your student is reading everyday! Memoirs will need to be typed and are due on Tuesday, 3/10/15

Next week: NO READING RESPONSE DUE again! This is PARCC testing week, and that will be enough. I would love to get your help for this week. I usually try to make testing as fun time for kids – something they will remember as a special time instead of being nervous or stressed about the test. I do this in different ways: I play fun music before the test. I also share inspirational videos with the kids to get them in the spirit of grit, trying hard and perseverance. We do “yoga” and fun brain exercises to get going. And… we have fun and special foods to eat. That’s where you come in. Testing will be Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday OF NEXT WEEK. We would love to have special foods like donuts, handmade goodies or anything else you can think of to celebrate our testing time. I am looking for volunteers who can sign up to bring one treat a day for the class (just our homeroom kids). I need one volunteer Tuesday, one Wednesday and one Thursday. You can send the treats with your child or drop it off each morning. If you are available to help, please email me and we will set up a schedule.

Final week of March: NO READING RESPONSE DUE!!! This is conferences week. Have you signed up for a time yet??? Students will share their learning, and will read their memoir with you. Don’t miss your child’s last elementary school conference!!!! 🙂

Reading responses will resume in April. I can’t stress enough how important it is for your child to CONTINUE READING!!!! Read, read and read some more!

Please email me if you have any questions about any of the information here. We are looking forward to a busy few weeks ahead, but they will also be fun and memorable! I hope yo hear from some of you about testing week and goodies!

Thank you for sharing your children with me!
